The Art of Lisa Evans

I'm *glad I'm not an illustrator -- and the world at large should be pretty grateful about it too, seeing as the little figures in this post amount to my very best effort (hahahahaha. Stop Smirking and uncurl that lip!). Yes, I'd be a starving illustrator and one deluded human being.

But the real reason I'm happy not to be a member of that happy band is that the competition for work must be absolutely enormous. Sure, the benefits are clear -- you get to be creative and do what you love; you don't have to put up with all the crap that surrounds the average workplace environment and -- very best of all -- you get to work in your pyjamas.** But the art world is stuffed full of talent and this seems to be especially the case when it comes to illustration. So I reckon it must taken some exceptional abilities to rise to the top of that particular pool -- and being stand-out different must help too.

The reason I'm on about this is because I've been having a look at the work of the freelance illustrator Lisa Evans and I think it's obvious that her artwork puts her in the exceptional league. I'm not the only one who thinks so, though -- just in case you don't trust my good taste (philistines and doubters) -- as Lisa's been named by The Big Picture Campaign as one of the UK's best new illustrators, in addition to having her work featured in magazines and the broadsheets.

You can see more of Lisa's work here, read about it here and buy it here.

*Glad is a bit of a camp word, don't you think? I'm sure it's going to join 'gay' as having a meaning other than happy at some point, if it hasn't already.
