Two lovely designs from Bohemian Closet at Etsy

Brocade Dragonfly -- Summer Collection 07 ($49.00)

Your Little Gold Clutch ($38.00)

Be still, my beating heart

These shoes, from the Jean Paul Gaultier 2007 Ready-to-wear collection.

Well, I'd wear them -- I'd probably have to sell the house and pawn the family silver (if I had any) but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices.

Pill Box Productions

Here's some delightfully different designs from Kristen at Pill Box Productions.

Horse & Carriage Western Scene Hood ($40).

Sweet Thing -- Fabric Headband/Choker ($14)

3 Mini Weeds Artwork ($28)

Paper Flower Brooch -- art-to-wear vintage paper poem ($9.00)

I love these little beauties -- and they're a snip at $39.00

These have a kind of 1940's feel about them, with the two-tone effect and the peep toe. Very glam ($39)

Femme Metale

The only downside associated with blogging about fashion items is that it can have a rather detrimental effect on the bank balance. All that gorgeousness, only a few clicks away -- the temptation is almost more than a girl can bear. So I’ve been (mostly) keeping to a low-spending pledge recently and in the past few weeks I have limited my purchasing to a mere three items that I’ve blogged about (oh, go on then -- it was five -- but who's counting?).

But sometimes my will-power is pushed to the absolute limit and that was definitely the case when I set eyes on Leslie Homan’s Femme Metale jewellery collection -- I’ve not been so seriously tempted in a long time.

Leslie designs and creates fabulously original, high-quality jewellery that is rock ‘n’ roll in the very best way -- combining a nice touch of tongue-in-cheek fun with impressive design-led style. No wonder the celebs come a-flocking.

Swizzle Showgirl Bracelet: vintage swizzle stick bracelet ($205.00)

Thin Bangle with Charm ($54.00)

Love Birds Necklace: a message of love, delivered by two swallows ($154.00)
There's also a 'HATE' version of this necklace -- for when you don't feel so well-disposed towards the world.

Royal Flush Ring ($88.00)

And from the Fine Jewellery Collection:

Crossbones Ring: 14k white gold, with pave diamonds. By special order only. ($6000.00).

Finally -- and I know I'm getting carried away with the images here -- I've got to add one of my favourite pieces. Another Swizzle Stick bracelet but I love it too much to miss it out

Ding A Ling Swizzle Stick Bracelet ($205.00)

Curiosities

I first came across Elizabeth Hudson’s Curiosities shop when I was doing a search for gothic mourning jewellery (as one does…) and found myself fascinated by the collection of items she has on offer. Elizabeth has a love of all things dark and bizarre and the items she has on offer reflect this theme -- in addition to her own hand-crafted gothic jewellery and fine art photographs, you will find a wide range of oddly wonderful objects, such as insect taxidermy specimens, beautifully strange soft-bodied dolls and vintage funeral ephemera.

I was doing a bit of research on Elizabeth’s artwork when I found an interview with her by Tina Teal at Dark Romance (the link is on their home page). The piece is worth reading, not only because it reveals the background to Curiosities but also because it shows that a fascination with the macabre can (and often does) go hand-in-hand with a celebration of life. It was also interesting to read Elizabeth’s upbeat response to the impact of mass access to the digital camera on the work of artistic photographers.

Dolly One. Limited-run archive quality photograph by Elizabeth Huston ($24.95)
Victorian Mourning Cameo on thick black velvet choker ribbon ($29.95)

Hand-crafted Butterfly Hair Clips, with pewter skull ($12.00).

Memento Mori Doll ($30.00) from October Effigies by Kerry Kate.

Rebound Designs

Caitlin at Rebound Designs creates unique book bags from old hardback books -- definitely a case of recycling and creativity colliding in the very best way. Her Naughty Pins -- made from text cut from trashy romance novels -- look like fun too.

Longfellow Poems book bag ($130)

Plane Geometry book bag ($120.00)

Shakepeare: 23 Plays & Sonnets book bag ($150)

From a selection of Naughty Pins ($8.00)
